Incobotulinumtoxin A
Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring protein produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum (C. botulinum). Botulinum toxin type A (the active ingredient in XEOMIN) is produced commercially from C. botulinum serotype A. XEOMINR (incobotulinumtoxin A) is indicated for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkle lines appearing on the forehead, between the eyebrows and in the crows feet region associated with muscle activity in adult patients. It has been used around the world since 2005 and was introduced to the US market in 2010.
XEOMINR is an FDA-approved, prescription medicine that is injected into the muscle and used for the purpose of eliminating facial wrinkles. Small amounts of this substance injected into affected muscles will improve the look of moderate to severe wrinkle lines in adults. The treatment usually takes effect within 24-48 hours following the injection and lasts from 4-6 months.
Treatment with XEOMINR is relatively simple and quick, requiring the injection of minute amounts of the substance through an extremely fine gauge needle into hyperactive muscles of facial expression, the action of which is creating unwanted wrinkles, typically in the areas of the forehead, between the eyebrows and in the crow’s feet regions. The procedure is completely non-surgical and requires no post injection “down time”. Patient’s can literally leave the office after a 5 – 10 minute procedure and resume their daily plans without interruption.
